Wal-Mart Beauty Box Review

I haven't tried everything in the Wal-Mart Beauty Box but I wanted to get back to you good people on the things that I did try. 

It was a pretty safe bet that this box was going to be worth the $5 price tag. I mean you really have to screw up royally to not be a good $5 box. But, there is a first time for everything, right?!

I liked the packaging of the box. They made sure all the products inside were safe. Nothing leaked or was out of place. It rivaled the packaging of my Ipsy box but not my MAC boxes (have you ever ordered from MAC? It's like getting a Christmas gift!).

I was excited when I saw the inside of the box. Deodorant, lipstick and shampoo & conditioner, all from popular regular, every day brands -- you have to find some gems inside. I did and it was certainly worth the price tag. 

From left to right, the first item is a sample that I was already trying out. The Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream is working just fine but I put it aside so I could try the L'Oreal Paris Revitalift cream. It's been almost three weeks and with a $20 price tag I'm kinda sad to say.... I really like it! It's turning out to be a great night time face cream. It smells good and moisturizes my face really well. I get dry skin at the first sign of cold weather so this works well. I wouldn't wear it during the day (it is thick) but night time use is perfect. 

Behind the L'Oreal moisturizer is a Couture Couture by Juicy Couture fragrance that I tried out. It's not bad. It's a strong scent than I normally wear and it smells like something else that I can't put my finger on. Maybe that old scent by Liz Claiborne? Am I reaching too far back? Anywho, it's not for me so I will pass this scent sample along to someone who will love it.

I was excited to try the Secret Clinical. I am a Secret girl! It's the only thing I use. I did try using it the conventional way of pulling up my shirt and just rubbing in under my arms but all that did was make my top wet. Yuck! Then I tried to let it dry by holding my arms up for a bit but I got tired of that really fast. I am going to give it a second chance this weekend and I'll come back and tell you what I think.

I haven't tried the shampoo & conditioner, I'm going to give the lipstick another try and I will retry the deodorant so you lucky folks get a part II of this review.

So far, is this worth $5 each quarter to you? Would you be willing to put $20 a year on the line for this?

Wal-Mart Beauty Box - Fall 2014

I said that I was going to try my hand at another subscription box and when I saw the quarterly Wal-mart subscription box for $5 a quarter, my alarm went off. That was the one for me! A subscription box that was quarterly and only $5 every 3 months? That was perfect!

I got my first box today and I was super excited to tear into it. I had no idea what was inside but it had to be worth $5, right? I was betting at least $10.

The first item that I saw was the Olay Regenerest Micro-Sculpting Cream (1.7 oz $23.94). If you recall, I got one of these samples when I went to my Oprah "The Life You Want" tour. I've been enjoying my sample and I'm glad that I got another one to test drive.

The next sample is a Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy duo (12.7 oz. 4.98 each). I've never tried this brand before so I'm very excited to try it. My sample is for Damage & Color Repair. My hair isn't really damaged (but it is relaxed) and I haven't had color in hair in about 12 years (but let one more silver/gray hair pop up!!).

I also got a L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer (1.7oz $19.97). My sample is .5 oz so not bad at all. I will probably wait until I'm finished with my open container of Olay Regenerest Micro-Sculpting Cream before trying this one.

I'm gonna smell good (maybe) because I got a sample of Couture Couture by Juicy Couture (1 oz. $27.10). I've heard of the brand but not this scent. I will know quickly if this is for me or not.

There's a Secret Clinical Strength Clear Gel ($11.97). It's a full size so I am VERY happy about that. I have an event this weekend that I'll need a clear gel for.

And last but not least I got a CoverGirl Continuous Color lipstick in It's Your Mauve ($4.94). It appears to be a really pretty brown color (in time for Fall). I have a feeling I'll like this item too.

At first glance this box looks really good and again, I am more than sure that I got my $5 worth. Come back in a few weeks and we will see, shall we?

Olay Total Effects Refreshing Citrus Scrub Cleanser & Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream

About a month ago I went to the Oprah "The Life You Want Tour" when it came to Atlanta (ahhhhhhh!). I went with a good friend of mine and we had a fantastic time! That was actually the event that made me sit back, take inventory of lots of things (including this blog) and made me start buckling down and doing the work needed to get the things I love doing, done.

Hence the upcoming posts. Folks, I'm thinking up some great new things for you guys! Stay tuned!

Anywhosie, while we were at the event, Olay gave everyone a few goodies. We got a mini Olay Total Effects Refreshing Citrus Scrub Cleanser ($8.27 for 6.5oz) and a mini Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream ($23.94 for 1.7oz). Freebies?! Yes ma'am! I like skin care products, even if not all of them like me. I wanted to try these bad boys out and see if we should invest in the larger sizes.

I tried the scrub first. You know my holy grail face wash is my Purity cleanser. I tried this with some hesitance (I didn't want my Purity cleanser to see me using something else). Well, I like it. I like it a lot. It seems to be gentle and doesn't aggravate my skin. I probably wouldn't use it every day. I think then it might aggravate me but I will use it every 3rd or 4th day. It smells citrusy but it's not overpowering. I'll finish the tube and then I might purchase a full size for that 3rd day deep cleaning.

I also tried the micro-sculpting cream and it was nice but I don't know what it did. I used it for a month and I don't see any change in my skin. The back of the box says it "starts to work immediately to reduce the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles over time". Well, maybe I don't have enough fine lines & wrinkles because the ones I do have are still there, telling my age. It does smell okay, I mean it's fine. It was light enough for night time use -- too heavy for day time use. I'll finish this container and unless something miraculous happens between now and then, I can't see me purchasing it again...especially with that price point. Are you kidding me?

So along with all of the ah ha's that we got from Oprah and her guests, we got very nice samples. I'll buy one but not the other. Thanks to Olay for thinking of us (no, I wasn't sponsored but this was a freebie).
