Summer Scents

Hey there!

For me, summer scents are no brainers. Spring scents are light and floral and delicate. Fall scents are hearty and heady and smell very “full”. Winter scents? Well, it’s too damned cold to think about fragrance! Go put on a sweater and get a peppermint white chocolate coffee.

But summer scents are sweet scents. In the summer I go all girlie with my scents. Most of the time I smell like I walked through a vat of cotton candy syrup. If that is too strong for you, I advise you wait until the Fall to stand next to me!

One of my fave summer scents was an impulse purchase (surprise, surprise) at the Sephora counter. They were having double points on fragrances so I decided to try a new one. I make a really good choice. Simply Pink by Pink Sugar is sweet and sugary and smells so good. It was about $22 for 1 fl. oz. This is a scent that I will make sure is ALWAYS on my counter top.

I have also talked about the Body Fantasies spray in Cotton Candy. This is one of my favorite scents of all times. I love this one. I start with the body cream and then add the spray and I am super sweet for the day. They body is spray is super cheap ($1.50 or $2 for the small size) and you can find it just about anywhere (Dollar General, Family Dollar, Walgreens, CVS, etc). The body cream is a different story. I have to order that bad boy on line.

I'm almost embarrassed to show the final one. It's a knock off of Britney Spears Fantasy Perfume (I think). I found it at Big Lots during the holidays. Whatever it's supposed to be, it's luscious. It again, smells sweet and candy like and yummy. I spritz it on and smell like a pastry kitchen (I didn't want to say cotton candy vat again). I love it. It cost me $3.50 and it's worth ever scent (ha! get it? scent/cent? Sorry. It was a long day). If it's not supposed to be Fantasy then, well, it's nice. Sorry about that too.

Summer sprays are easy to pick. Run through the candy store and you'll smell just like me. I only have a little while left before the first cold snap. Then I'll have to change over to something spicy and woodier.

And, I'll have to change over to pumpkin spice lattes.

Not really. I don't like pumpkin spice lattes but you get the picture.

What did you wear this summer? Are you going to sneak it into Fall or do you have something waiting in the wings?

May Faves

I know, I've been such a slacker. I didn't do a March or an April favorites. It's not that I didn't have favorites, it's that I was too lazy to write them down, take pictures and talk about them. Really, it's the truth. This month, however, I pre-planning, got a good night's sleep and began typing.

Here you go.

I love my candles. My favorites for this month were Target Spun Sugar (see, I bought the big one!) and Bath & Body Works Pink Bubble Gum. I don't have to tell you that my house spelled like a candy store. I loved it! These are candles that I plan on keeping in rotation at my house.

My coffee of the month was Archer Farms Milk Chocolate Strawberry. I think people sleep on Target brands. They make some pretty good stuff and their flavored ground coffee is wonderful. Milk Chocolate Strawberry has an undertone of chocolate with a hint of strawberry. So good. I have 3 other Archer Farms coffees so Junes coffee fave may be different.

I was all about Simply Pink by Pink Sugar this month. I picked up mine at Sephora after smelling about 20 other fragrances. I sniffed this one and then went and played with makeup. Then I came back and sniffed it some more. Then I choose two Buxom lip glosses and went back for another sniff. By the time I was finished, I had tried Simply Pink so many times, I couldn't smell anything else.  I am soooo glad I kept smelling it. It's such a sweet scent that I smell good all day long!

The same day that I got my Simply Pink, I also picked up the Too Faced Bonjour Soleil Summer Bronzing Palette (Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer, Sun Bunny Natural Bronzer and Snow Bunny Luminous Bronzer). I was leery because not everything looks good on darker skin. I asked one of my ladies at Sephora (I spend way too much time in there -- I know their birthdays and all about their families!!) and she said that yes, this palette would work for me. Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer and Snow Bunny Luminous Bronzer are so awesome! I use my powder brush to add Snow Bunny to entire cheek area and then add Chocolate Soleil Bronzer as a contour. The Snow Bunny luminosity shines right through and creates a beautiful glow on your face. I am so glad I took a chance on it.

I've also been loving the Wet n Wild Fergie Shimmer Palette in Rose Champagne Glow. It, along with my Bonjour Soleil Summer Bronzing Palette, stays on top of my makeup table, ready to create a natural glow on my face. Not everyone likes the Fergie Shimmer Palette but I say try one if the three that she has and see how you like it.

And my favorite body wash has been Dial Frozen Yogurt Cooling Body Wash. I love the way this smells. It's a slightly sweet, refreshing smell. It's not overpowering. It's soft and lasts quite a while. The body wash itself is a nice, creamy wash that leaves your skin so soft.

So the theme for the month was candy smells and shimmery face. It's right after my birthday month -- you do the math. I like to glow and smell good.

What were your faves this month? Are the same as last month? What's new? I plan on trying quite a few new things in June so stay tuned!

Quickie Review - Simply Pink, Pink Sugar by Aquolina

I love this fragrance. It is the best. Its sweet and sugary and smells so good. I found it at Sephora (of course) for $30 and almost walked past. Sure, the bottle was pretty but I had smelled the Pink Sugar and wasn't a fan so when my lady at Sephora mentioned it, I passed it up the first time. Then after sniffing 5 or 6 scents, I went ahead and tried it. Love, love, love it!

The fragrance notes are raspberry, strawberry, vanilla, praline, licorice...folks I don't know what that means! If I had to tell you the fragrance notes I'd say things like a strong scent of cotton candy, with an undertone of Krispy Kreme glaze and the slightest dash of freshly bathed baby. There is also a brief note of strawberry Jolly Rancher. You can almost smell it, can't you?!

Oddly enough, I tried to Google information about Simply Pink but couldn't find anything. I'm not sure if that means it's going away or never caught on but I hope not. I was hoping to find a body lotion or powder or something to match but I couldn't find anything at all. I will probably go prowl the stores this weekend and see what I find. I'll keep you posted.

Until then, I'll spray this on each morning and smell like a big puff of cotton candy and a subtle hint of Jolly Rancher.
