Does it make scents?

I love candles. Everyone knows that. That's why I got soooo many smell goods for Christmas. Unfortunately, you have to finish what you have before you start burning new ones. Luckily, you get many opportunities to burn candles during the holidays. I finished 4 candles during the month of December. It wasn't hard. Candles really relax me, if they have a good scent. 

My favorite candle of the month was my Apple Pie scented candle by Celebrating Home. One of my coworkers was selling it for her kid. This one was very nice. It smelled just like warm spiced apple pie. It had a great room throw without being over powering.  I really enjoyed burning this one. 

My next fave was the Banana Nutmeg Bread Pudding from Bath and Body Works. Man! I thought someone was cooking the custard and cutting the bananas for a real pudding. The room throw was amaze-balls and it burned all the way to the bottom. Three wick candles are tricky you know. Sometimes they only burn two thirds of the way down and then you are pissed. Not this one though. 

I burned Peppermint Creme by Living Colors. It's a Big Lot's brand that I thought would be nice. I've had other Big Lot's candles that I didn't like but this one smelled so good in the store, that I was convinced it would be perfect in my house. If you stand really close to it, you smell a faint scent of vanilla peppermint. If you walk 2 feet from the candle, you smell wax. I only paid $2.50 but I want $2.75 back for my trouble.

I also purchased Pumpkin Waffles from 719 Walnut Avenue from Wal-mart. The first time I lit it, it smelled great and then the next time I lit it, I couldn't smell it that well until it had been burning for 2 hours. That's not normally a huge problem for me because I typically burn candles when I'm going to be home for a while. But, I'd like to know that my candles are going to smell good whenever I burn them. I forgot what I paid for this one but I want an extra quarter back on this one as well.

Like I said, I have a lot of candles that I'm ready to burn and wax chunks that I'm ready to melt. I know that January is going to be a scent-a-licious month in my house. What are you burning this month?

It's A Haul Y'all! - Dollar Tree, Marshall's, Big Lots & Ross

It's been a while since I posted an honest to goodness, random haul. I spent Saturday morning in the streets and the result is a trunk full o'goodies!

BATH AND COSMETICS - I made a point of stopping into my local Dollar Tree because one of my YouTube Gals, Frugal, Fun & Fabulous (if you aren't watching her, you are making poor life choices) recommended the Daily Defense Body Wash with Argon Oil. I'm excited to try it because it does smell really good. She also found some really cute tote bags and I found the one that you see as a background in all the pictures. Isn't that cute as a button?! Yes it is! I also got my e.l.f. Wet Gloss Lash & Brow Clear Mascara. I actually use both sides to set my brows after I use my Anastasia Brow Wiz.

From Big Lots I picked up 2 fragrances that I thought might be delicate enough for me to try (and if not, they're only $1). I got the Touch Heart (their impression of Coach Love by Coach) and Stunner (their impression of Bombshell by Victoria's Secret). At first sniff Touch Heart might work, Stunner may be a bit much for me.  I'll let you know.

Marshalls gifted me with a Body Shop Vineyard Peach Shower Gel (by gifted I mean I purchased). I've had a raspberry shower gel from them and loved it. This one was $3.99, well worth a trip to my house. I also picked up a Revive Makeup Blending Applicator. I've never used a sponge for my face and I wanted to see if this would do anything magical. I'll report back.

FOOD - It shouldn't surprise you that food is a part of my haul. Big Lots had this Winter Wonderland Gingerbread Man coffee. It was decent. I have to brew it on 6 oz (the smallest size) in order to get decent flavor from it. Either Ross or Marshalls (can't remember) had these two Meyer Lemon Olive Oil Blends for $3.99. I love cooking with oil blends and I don't have this flavor. I figure I'll be able to add this to salad dressings or other raw foods.

HOME "STUFF" - And second to last, is my home haul. I had to pick up some command strips to hang a picture. I saw a cute grocery list and pen set at Marshalls and the Dollar Tree had some Glade solid air fresheners in Pure Vanilla Joy. I don't normally use solid air fresheners but you can't very well light a candle at work and get away with it (well, I can't). I picked up 2 in case I liked it. If I don't, I can always use it outside in the storage closet.

And my favorite buy of them all are my London pajamas! I don't know if I've ever mentioned it but I'm British (in my head). Seriously, I am an Anglophile. I have several items all over my house with Union Jacks, a double decker bus, and several pictures all representing my love of England. Those closest to me know that an authentic piece of Cadbury's chocolate and some ribena (though not at the same time) win me over every time. So, while roaming the aisles of Ross Department Store I came across these pjs, I didn't look at the price, just the size (but was happy that they were only $16.99). And as I write this post, I'm sitting oh so cozy in my freshly laundered, brand new pjs.

Summer Scents

Hey there!

For me, summer scents are no brainers. Spring scents are light and floral and delicate. Fall scents are hearty and heady and smell very “full”. Winter scents? Well, it’s too damned cold to think about fragrance! Go put on a sweater and get a peppermint white chocolate coffee.

But summer scents are sweet scents. In the summer I go all girlie with my scents. Most of the time I smell like I walked through a vat of cotton candy syrup. If that is too strong for you, I advise you wait until the Fall to stand next to me!

One of my fave summer scents was an impulse purchase (surprise, surprise) at the Sephora counter. They were having double points on fragrances so I decided to try a new one. I make a really good choice. Simply Pink by Pink Sugar is sweet and sugary and smells so good. It was about $22 for 1 fl. oz. This is a scent that I will make sure is ALWAYS on my counter top.

I have also talked about the Body Fantasies spray in Cotton Candy. This is one of my favorite scents of all times. I love this one. I start with the body cream and then add the spray and I am super sweet for the day. They body is spray is super cheap ($1.50 or $2 for the small size) and you can find it just about anywhere (Dollar General, Family Dollar, Walgreens, CVS, etc). The body cream is a different story. I have to order that bad boy on line.

I'm almost embarrassed to show the final one. It's a knock off of Britney Spears Fantasy Perfume (I think). I found it at Big Lots during the holidays. Whatever it's supposed to be, it's luscious. It again, smells sweet and candy like and yummy. I spritz it on and smell like a pastry kitchen (I didn't want to say cotton candy vat again). I love it. It cost me $3.50 and it's worth ever scent (ha! get it? scent/cent? Sorry. It was a long day). If it's not supposed to be Fantasy then, well, it's nice. Sorry about that too.

Summer sprays are easy to pick. Run through the candy store and you'll smell just like me. I only have a little while left before the first cold snap. Then I'll have to change over to something spicy and woodier.

And, I'll have to change over to pumpkin spice lattes.

Not really. I don't like pumpkin spice lattes but you get the picture.

Rimmel London Vinyl Jelly Lip Liners

My local Big Lots doesn't normally have a great selection of anything really. I can catch one or two things every now and then. When I do catch something, then I want to scour the land and go to ALL the Big Lots for more (that's either my competition complex, need to concur complex or hoarders complex -- not sure which). Last week was a now and then that I caught something. I found 2 packages of 2 Rimmel Vinyl Jelly Lip Liners. Jackpot!

I don't remember these liners. Some kinda way, I missed them. And, apparently, there was a whole line of jelly products! I not only missed the Vinyl Jelly Gloss Lip Liner line, I also missed the Rimmel Jelly Cocktails Sheer Lipgloss and Rimmel Jelly Tints Lip Balms. The name alone makes me want to hunt them down! No worries because I now have in my collection, Fudge, Tasty, Hot Spark and Be A Star. These lip liners are just like the Rimmel Exaggerate lip liners -- smooth, creamy and easy to put on.

Fudge is a warm brown  and Tasty is a pinky brown. They both fit in perfectly with my love of nude lipsticks. Or, if I want to use my liner as a base I can top them with gloss. Hot Spark is a pretty pinky red that will add pop to my nudes and play nicely with my berries. Be A Star, well the name says it all, doesn't it? It's going to go with those pinks that I have (I do have some!). I am ready to play with all 4 of these colors.

And, I got them for a buck a piece. That made me happiest of all. You KNOW I'm going back for backups! At $2 for 2, you can't go wrong. If I hadn't swatched these at 10 pm, I'd have gotten dressed and gone back out!
