Nail Polish Change - Maybelline Colorshow Blushed Nudes polish in Sultry Spice

Hey there!

Let's talk about this nail polish quick, fast and in a hurry...

...so I can get it off of my nails. 

I was wasting time, wandering through Target (as most of us do) and my eye caught the Maybelline Colorshow Blushed Nudes nail polish line. I didn't even know if it's a new line or if the colors were new to the line but when I peeked at them I wasn't overly impressed. I almost walked about but then I saw the color Sultry Spice. It looked interesting. It looked like a color that I needed for fall. It looked like a color that my nails needed. I decided to pick it up and get a better look.

When I picked it up, my first thought was, "do I own any Maybelline nail polish? And if I don't, why don't I"?

To answer my own question, yes, I do.

I own six of them.

And except for one of them, I got them all on sale at Big Lots for about $2 or less. Does that mean something?

I was very excited to purchase my Maybelline Colorshow Blushed Nudes polish in Sultry Spice. You know I have a problem with cooler weather! The color looked like just the thing I needed to help me glide into fall. 

The color night have been but the formula was not. 

Nuh-uh. 

I've NEVER had such a difficult time with a polish. It went on patchy and dried super fast in some places and regular speed in others. 

And when I say super fast I mean one swipe, two swipe, dry on the left, wet on the right. 

And it was kinda gloppy. 

These shouldn't  be old polishes. This Blushed Nudes line is fairly new, right? Like within the last five years! I take that back because I have bottles of three year old polish that behaves waaay better than this. This was atrocious.

And yes, people have commented on how pretty the color is but close up reveals that it looks like a 3 year old polished my nails.

You know I can do slightly better than that! I might color outside the lines and onto my fingers but everything within the lines is all good.

And maybe I'm being overly dramatic and it's really ok. Maybe this polish and others within the line work better the second time. Maybe I should give it another chance.

And maybe you haven't met me in real life.

I give second chances. I know when it's okay to do so.

And, I know when it's not.

Nail Polish Change - Wet n Wild in Candid Affair & Sally Hansen's Pacific Blue

I know that it's been a while since I dipped my nails in polish. I decided to tone back the nail polishing because my nails started to look really good. At first I didn't understand. I mean, I didn't polish my nails, let them get all chippy and crap and ignored them.

And they grew!

And they got stronger!

So obviously nail neglect is nail love!

Or something like that. Anywho, I pulled out a Wet n Wild nail color in Candid Affair. It's a beautiful lilac shimmer cream color (yeah, I said all that) and look at my nails. Look at them! Delicious! I love this color. It matches my complexion and it goes along with my summer pastel love that's been happening this year. I always say that Wet n Wild is one of my all time favorite polishes and $1.99 is a better than fantastic price for this.

Wet n Wild polishes last for several days (or a full week 'cause I don't know when I'm polishing my nails again! #lazy). The formula is so easy to work with. I own a lot (A LOT - think more than 50) of Wet n Wild and I think I might have 1 that was a bad formula. The tapered brush is great and makes polishing my nails so easy. If I had to give a con to counter this list of pros I'd say I want MORE!!! It's about time for a new collection.

Now these toes? Yaaaaass! Sally Hansen's Pacific Blue. I hesitated but I am enjoying it. My tootsies are getting some wanted attention, as well as the odd toe fetish creeper's unwanted attention (You shouldn't be drooling when you say "nice feet", sir!).

Now SallyH can have some difficult formulations but this one is not. It's a dream to work with. I hate that it's discontinued but I have picked up Julie G's Cabana Boy as a decent dupe.

Nail Polish - July

Hey There!

I had the chance to dip my toes into Sinful Colors Southern Belle Polish. Influenster sent me a Sunshine Vox box and the lovely color that I ended up with inside my Vox Box was Southern Belle. It's a beautiful purple cream that I don't currently have in my collection (I mean, now I do!).

And, I love Sinful Colors polishes. They are a great price and the formula, 9 times out of 10, is pretty good. With Southern Belle, I only needed 1 coat but I did 2 just to be sure. It's a fall color but it's so pretty. I normally wouldn't use a fall color in July but I made an exception. My feet enjoyed it.

It has been a very neutral finger nail month. I've been enjoying wear pale colors for the summer. Pale polishes work well when you're doing a lot of things with your hands. Pale polishes don't show the chips and/or nicks. Pale polishes look better for a longer period of time.

Wet n Wild's Private Viewing is a peachy nude. The website says that it's a polish that has shimmer. I say not really. It's almost has some shimmer. I definitely needed 3 coats of this polish. It's a very sheer cream polish that goes on just a little bit streaky. This color is one of the WnW polishes that doesn't have the best formula. It's one of the ones I struggle with. Even so, the polish makes my nails look super professional.

Wet n Wild polishes do last quite a long time on my nails. I normally only wear them for about 4 or 5 days but you really can do a good 7 - 8 day run. You know that I love the bottle and handle. I don't have to talk about the tapered brush that makes polishing my nails easier. It's why I reach for WnW polishes so often.

I didn't have to change my toe nail polish (because SinfulColors lasts quite a while) and I didn't wear polish on my nails half of the month. But, both of the colors that I did wear are winners.

Nail Polish Change - Orange Nails

I love the fact that summer lets me splash bright colors on my fingers and toes. I am a girl that loves splashes of color and my toes are always a willing canvas for color!

The only thing I have to watch out for is tanning. Towards the middle of summer my hands and feet turn a darker golden shade and that doesn't always work with orange polish. 

But, I have still managed to pull together some of my favorite oranges that help me cool off in the summer!

Mardi Gras by SinfulColors is a melon creme. It's smooth and I can take it from spring into fall. It's almost a one coater. 

Orange Crush by SinfulColors is one of two colors that I use the word "juicy" to describe. I am not a big fan of textured polishes but I keep reaching for this one. I pop on a top coat and all is right with the world. 

Charismatic by Revlon is a shimmering creme polish that is perfect with a "just tanned foot". It doesn't work after the third or fourth tan so I wear it early in the summer. 

Poppy by SallyHansen is an orange almost a pink. It's one of those colors that could go either way. I've had this one for years and it makes an appearance two or more times each year. It's so versatile that you just want to play with it. 

Luck à l'orange by Wet n Wild is my other "juicy" color. It's a shimmer that looks nothing like orange the fruit, but man it's what a summer orange is all about to me. I wear the heck outta this one. It's beautiful no matter how tan your skin gets. It's just a great color on any skin tone. 

Love Me Some Muscles! by Wet n Wild is one I hesitated with. It's a midtone melon but it's kinda blah to me. There isn't any BAM! about this color by amazingly, I reach for this when I need a conservative orange. I can wear one coat and it's a bit sheerer and modest or I can go with two coats and still be pretty modest. 

Honestly, it doesn’t matter if the weather is hot where you are or just slightly warm. These oranges will change your life!

Or at least your nails!

Breaking Into Spring Nail Polish

The weather is being iffy. It's time for the April showers. I'm not mad though because the pollen count has been manageable because of all the rain. Because the weather has been iffy, I decided I needed to transition to the spring nail polish color.

Before I transitioned, I used my final 2 winter/fall polishes. The first one that I used was Milani Nail Lacquer in Heather. I have owned this color for a while. It was the first Milani polish that I ever purchased and I absolutely love it. The color comes off brown on camera but really it's a cream grape color. It's rich and pretty and is so easy to work with. It behaves better than some of my higher end nail polishes. I love it.

My last winter/fall polish was Zoya nail polish in Areej. Areej is the perfect berry color. You could totally get away with this year round but it's not quite as bright as you see in the picture. It's a creme polish and I love creme polishes better than all the rest. They are so rich and warm and Zoya does a great job with cremes.

About a month ago I lucked up on some Essie polishes at Marshalls. I love buying polish from Marshalls. Essie normally goes for $8.50 (I have no idea while the bottle says compare at $6.00) and I got these for $3.99. I picked up Sunday Funday (how aptly named!), Pansy and Spaghetti Strap.

I have Sunday Funday on my toes and I love it. It's a pretty coral shade and that was the perfect ice breaker (literally in some parts of the country). As a first polish of spring, I give it a high 5.

Pansy is this week's toe color. It's a bright, fun pink. A great weather transition color.

Now, Spaghetti Strap is going to be a problem. I only used 2 coats of the other 2 polishes but I used 3 coats of this one. It's super sheer. I don't normally go quite this sheer but I'll give it a try and see.

My only Essie complaint is that all 3 are hard to work with. They are a bit runny and you have to do that thin coat with a "pat pat pat" of another coat, trick. Maybe with some age they will perform better. I know that sometimes helps.

But other than that, these polishes are all nice colors that I will wear again (except, maybe Spaghetti Strap). The Essies will see a lot of play this summer!

Nail Polish Change - Lancôme Very In Love & Sinful Colors In Gilded

So you came back to see what my favorite nail polish of all time (or 2014) was. Well...I'm gonna make you wait...but just for a few paragraphs.

Instead, we are going to talk about what I wore on my toes for the past week. Tee hee. I know, I'm such a tease. On my toes this past week I wore my Lancôme polish in Very In Love. It's a pretty pinky red that compliments my complexion. I topped it off with my Sinful Colors polish in Gilded. Gilded really brought out the pink in the Lancôme polish. I spent a lot of time during the holidays, at folks homes where taking off your shoes was mandatory (or strongly advised). You definitely want your toes to look cute when you are visiting the fam.

The Lancôme polish wears well but again, it was on my tootsies so it usually does. The Sinful Colors polish sealed the deal. I know that I can get another 2 weeks or so of wear from this combo. It seems like it would be a weird combination but I like it. My feet will see this dynamic duo again.

And, for my favorite polishes of the year....

L'Oreal Collection Privée in doutzen's nude and China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Travel in Colour. The China Glaze top coat is NO surprise to anyone. I wore this sucker as a top coat, party nail, whatever I could get it on. I only have the mini size, but I have three of those bad boys. Running out is NOT an option.

The L'Oreal polish might be a surprise. The color is certainly not. I told you that warm light chocolate with a hint of strawberry is so delicious on my hands. I've worn this color many times and then I get ticked off about the chipping and take it off. Yes, the formula sucks moose balls but when the color is this pretty, you deal with it.

I did say that I wouldn't purchase another L'Oreal polish until the formula changes and I haven't. I just can't get with chipping after 24 hours. My plan this year is to find another polish formula with a similar color so that I can retire this one but still have that beautiful color.

And do you see what happens when you add the China Glaze as a tip color? Geeze La-weeze that's pretty! I stared at my own darned hands all day. I didn't need any compliments...I made my own!

So there you have it. My 2 favorite colors of 2014. So pretty and fun. AND, I did decide to do a monthly nail polish round up this year instead of each week. I tried the weekly thing and the pressure was too much! There were so many times when I wanted to wear a polish 2 or 3 times in a row but I didn't feel that I could. Now I can comment on what I wore and if I purchase any during the month, I can save them up for the one time mention. Hopefully that will work.

What I can tell you is that while I have my eye on some new polishes, I want to go back and re-wear some oldies but goodies. I have some Wet n Wild and Sinful Colors that I'd like to wear again and I might have to pull out a spring color on my toes, just to make me feel good. You know how I feel about winter!

Are there any colors that you'd like to try this year? Maybe some new brands that you will look at? I think I may give Zoya another try. They are bringing out some colors that are right up my alley. And, I'd like to try an Indie brand. I kept looking for cute colors last year but nothing made me jump.

Nail Polish Change - Wet n Wild's Taking The Red-Eye and Sephora by OPI's Be-Claus I Said So plus Sinful Colors Holiday Rebel

Yeah, 2 of these polishes are the same. They were so pretty (and lasted so long) I decided to keep them and just add my new Sinful Colors Holiday Rebel top coat.

You already know what I thought of the other colors but I'm here to tell you that Holiday Rebel just brought the perfect amount of green and red holiday sparkle that my phalanges needed (SAT/ACT word of the day - you learn here people!). I of course, waited until they chipped to take the picture BUT it's worth noting that it took 8 days for the Wet n Wild (Taking The Red Eye) to chip and the nail with the Sephora by OPI neva chipped! I mean, you can see the tip wear but it didn't chip. Cool beans.

I added Holiday Rebel to my pinkies and my middle fingers and showed them off to everyone that asked to see my nails and several people that didn't. They accented my party nail (Sephora by OPI's Be-Clause I Said So) so nicely. This is a color combo that I will be using often. I might try topping green polish with this next time. Won't that be fun?!

I have a definite idea about what's going on the nails for this last week of the year. It's going to be my FAVORITE polish of the year so you want to tune back in and find out what it was.

AND, I think that I might do a monthly nail polish round up next year instead of each week. I did each week as a way to force me to paint my nails every Saturday but I've gotten a tiny bit of a life (let's not get crazy) and some Saturday evenings, I'm not home (hey! settle down). And, there have been weeks that I have taken off a polish that I couldn't stand and didn't even wait for it to chip. I think we will just notate all of that at the end of the month.

Nail Polish Change - Wet n Wild's Taking The Red-Eye and Sephora by OPI's Be-Claus I Said So

I am sooo sorry! I thought I had pushed the button on this post. Well, here you go, one day late. Sorry (and I was so excited about this).

If you thought I loved last week's nails, you ain't seen nuthin yet! This week I wore Wet n Wild's Taking The Red-Eye and Sephora by OPI's Be-Claus I Said So on my party nail. WOW! That red is a beautiful burgundy red that is smoky and sultry and just so sophisticated. I received soooo many complements on my nails. I've worn the WnW color before so I knew how fantastic is was but this just reaffirms it. The application was easy as pie, the formulation is great and the polish lasts so long. I'm in love.

The party nail was fun too. Do you see it? It looks like Dorothy's ruby red slipper high on glitter. I LOVE it! The glitter falls in just the right places. You know what I mean! Sometimes you have to strategically place glitter on your nails. But, with this color, every time you dip into the bottle, you get the perfect amount of glitter. This is going to be my favorite party look of the month, hands down.

Oh, and I gave up trying to shoot my nail pics the way everyone else does. My hands might have 3 good nails out of 5 so I'm going to take a picture showing off my best nails. Maybe next year I will make a light box or something. I dunno. Keep an eye out for that. 

Broadway Nails in the color Bloody Lips

This week I tried one of my cheapy cheapy polishes that I found at Family Dollar. It's Broadway Nails in the color Bloody Lips. I know, crazy name. Sorry. I also know that some folks won't touch a cheap nail polish but I'm here to tell you, you can't discount polish because of price. Some of the worst polishes I've ever used cost me the most money and some of the best cost me a dollar.

This particular Broadway Nails color is a beautiful holiday red. My nails remind me of Dorothy's ruby red slippers. There is the slightest sparkle to the red color. I didn't think it would be this pretty when I used the one coat but right before I added the second coat, I took another look and realized I liked it very much.

I did a lot of moving things and manual labor this week and even so, the chipping was minimal. Score! My nails lasted a full 6 days and that never happens. The formula was nice, just the right consistency and it dried well.

My only con is from the brand as a whole (as it is carried by Family Dollar). There just isn't a big variety in colors. There are lots of blues and purples and well, just colors that I'm not into. Out of the entire display, this was the ONLY color that I wanted to try. It's really too bad because I like the formula and would be willing to try more of them.

Nail Polish Change - Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Polish in Pep-Plum

This week I finally draped my finger nails in polish. I mentioned that I had been helping my mom pack and move for about two weeks so my hands and nails looked gross!

So this week I wore Pep-Plum by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Polish. Let me start off with the color. It. Is. Gorgeous! I love this color. It's a plum color that is so bright and beautiful. I would sit and just stare at the color. It is fantastic.

Now the formula. It sucks big time. This polish was runny and I had to be super careful when putting it on because it ran everywhere. I used 2 coats and even though I needed a 3rd, I didn't want to deal with it again, so I didn't. It chipped the very next day which is why there aren't any nail swatches. I normally take my nail pics the next day. I am NOT use to this type of treatment with Sally Hansen polishes. I just think this was a bad batch. At least that's what I want to believe.

Of course I will continue to purchase Sally Hansen Xtreme Nail polishes. I think this was just a fluke bottle/batch. If I use it again though...well, I don't know that I will. It was kinda of traumatizing.

Nail Polish Change - A Mini Nail Polish Haul

No, you don't see a nail swatch today. That's because I didn't change my polish this week. I know, I know. It's not like me at all. But, in between making sweet potato pies, visiting with family and out of town guests and eating my way through the week, I just didn't have the time! Yep, it's a weak excuse but if you had a bite of my aunt's chocolate cake you would totally understand. Instead I will give you my tiny nail polish haul.

Last week I picked up my holy grail top coat, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri and a Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polish in Pep-Plum. CVS was having a deal if you purchased $10 in Sally Hansen products, you'd get $4 in CVS bucks. I had 2, $6 CVS bucks so I paid zero dollars for these 2 items and got another $4 to spend later. Sweet! I love Sally Hansen polishes. To me, they rival any of the high end polishes.

Today I took the day off from work and ran around (while you good people were at work) and snatched up Cyber Monday deals...in store. Yes, stores had in store Cyber Monday deals. I picked up quite a few things including L.A. Colors polish in Confetti and Broadway Nails polish in Bloody Lips. I know that the last L.A. Colors polish I wore ended up not being my favorite but I really liked the confetti look. Isn't that pretty? I decided to give them another try. And, I've never owned anything from Broadway Nails, I've seen it in Dollar General and Family Dollar but I've never picked one up before. This pretty red caught my eye, so I thought I'd give it try.

So now you have a sneak peek at what I'll be using this week. I already know what combination I'll be using them in.

Nail Polish Change - Nicole by OPI in Count On Me

This week I wore Nicole by OPI in Count on Me. And, you can't count on me. I'm sorry that I don't have a nail swatch on my actual nail for you. I wasn't smart and painted my nails and then spent the next week helping my mother pack boxes and move. Day one they chipped but that's not the polishes fault. That's totally my fault.

Even though the chips were my fault, I still wasn't a fan of this formula. The color is purple iridescent but it's flat. It wasn't sparkly or super shimmery. It didn't do anything special for my nails and it wasn't even good as an topcoat. I had to use three coats on my nails and even then it was so sheer. This might be good for a little girl just beginning her nail polish journey.

I've tried other polishes from Nicole by OPI. I can't say that they fare any better than anything else. The formula is just ok, the colors aren't very opaque and I've had to use three coats with every color that I've tried. That has never happened from all of the colors within a collection until this one.

The bottom line is I have given several shades from this nail line a chance and there are soooo many other polish lines that work just as well or better. I probably won't pick up any more of these and if I do, you know I'll be scrutinizing the heck out of it. 

Nail Polish Change - Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Ruby Do and So Much Fawn

This past week I dipped my toes and fingers in luscious Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure colors. You know how other people run to the store for new Essie and OPI collections? I run to the store for new Complete Salon Manicure collections. I love these polishes. They are so easy to apply and last almost a full week regardless of how much I type or work. The color range of all the Sally Hansen polishes is great but it seems that the Complete Salon Manicure colors or richer colors.

I wore Ruby Do on my toes (left - this is week 2) and So Much Fawn (right) on my hands. Let's bask in the colors for a moment, shall we? I love them. They are creamy colors and I almost got away with 1 coat! I wanted it just a tad richer so I used 2.

Ruby Do is such a rich berry color and So Much Fawn is a beautiful "strawberry milk chocolate color". You guys know I love that color! There is no reason to put this color up because I WILL wear it again soon.

These two colors were great purchases in my book. At the full price (around $7) these are fantastic but I always catch them CVS BOGO 1/2 off with coupons or some other discount. However, I'd pay full price in a hot minute!

Nail Polish Change - Revlon's Iconic

This week I was super stoked to wear my Revlon nail polish in Iconic. I picked it up a few weeks ago but had some colors in the nail polish queue so I just got to wear this color. I really liked it! This color was green in some light and gray in other light. I enjoyed wearing it. 

It was a hard formula to smooth out but I did my best. I try to only dip into the bottle once for each nail but with this polish, several times I had to go back in for more. It seemed to take quite a while to dry and even after using my Sally Hansen Insta-Dry, I had a few nicks. Luckily they weren't on my filming hand. Lord knows we can't have the pretty hand all messed up (can you hear the sarcasm?). 

It lasted decently through my required 4 days. I always mention that I type a lot so you have to be almost magical to make it past day 5.

While I really enjoyed this color, it may move to the "for toes only" side of my nail kit. It was such a pain to work with, I probably won't try it on my fingers again. 

Nail Polish Change - Essie's Bahama Mama

This past week I wore another dark nail color. The weather is turning a bit chilly and I've turned my clock back so I've come to terms with the fact that winter really is on the way. Essie's Bahama Mama is a rich, grapey wine color that is very striking on your nails. I enjoyed wearing it, once I got over the fact that I couldn't do clean up on mistakes as well as I can with lighter colors. I think it was ok because I'm pretty sure no one looked at my nails and saw that the cuticles has traces of polish. No, everyone that commented loved the deep color, perfect for fall.

I used 2 coats but I probably could have done a third coat and gotten a richer look. It was chip free for 4 days (but you could see some typing wear by day 3) and the formula is fine but in my opinion, not $8.50 fine. No worries! I picked up this one in the Rite Aid discount bin for $2.12. It was definitely $2.12 fine!

When I initially picked up this color (mid-summer maybe?), I read some online reviews before using it. Most people really love the color but hate the streakiness if you only use 2 coats. I have to agree. I really loved the color but I wasn't in love with the fact that I should have used 3 coats. Had I paid the full $8.50 for this polish, I'd have been disappointed but I got it for a steal so I'm okay with it.

Keep reading folks because I think you are going to see lots more deep colors. I may throw some other shades in but you'll have to keep tuned in to see!

Nail Polish Change - Nicole by OPI's Feeling Very Cherry & Orly Crawford's Wine

This month's Ipsy bag contained a Nicole by OPI nail polish. It was a BEAUTIFUL color, Very Cherry. It is such a rich formula that looked sooo pretty on my fingers. It's nicely opaque and after 2 coats it looked soooo good. It was deep, dark cherry color that made me want to bite my fingers off!

My only complaint is that I wasn't able to clean up my nails. Yep, that's why my nails look like that. I tried to use my tiny concealer brush to clean up mistakes and it didn't work at all! That's ok. It just means that I will have to take more time when using it.

I used the Orly Crawford's Wine on my tosies. Maybe my bottle was an older bottle because it was a rough go. It took several passes to make it smooth. I'm glad that it's on my feet during the Fall months. I wear shoes that cover those bad boys most of the time so it doesn't matter that the formula isn't that great. But, the color is nice.

My nail color lasted 4 days and by the 5th day the chipping was really noticeable. I've had the toe polish on for a week and will wear it for another week, at least.

Nail Polish Change - SinfulColors in Vacation Time

Don't you LOVE this color? It's like warm melted chocolate dripping all over my fingers (which is the case a lot of the time - I'm such a foodie). 

Sinful Colors does it right when it comes to polish! They do a fan-dang-tastic job I tell ya! This particular polish is proof. I have only had 1 polish so far that wasn’t great. Besides this color (Vacation Time) being fantastic, this polish itself is great. It lasts all week, had very minimal chipping and brilliant shine. I always use my Sally Hansen Insta-Dry instead of/as a top coat but this would have been gorgeous without it.

I hated removing this polish. HATED it. My plan was to change polish every 3 or 4 days to showcase my darker, richer colors. I didn't want to! I got soooo many compliments on this color that taking it off was really a shame. And, except for where I jammed my ringer on the side of the car door (no pain, just shame), there were no chips until day 5! Then it was just the tips (I type a lot).

I don't even put this color back in its polish container. I just leave it out and when I can't fingure out what to wear, this bad boy goes on.

I got this for either $.99 or $1.99 at Walgreens. If you haven't tried Sinful Colors nail polish, this is a GREAT one to start off with.
